Research Fellow
Angelika Antoniou holds a BSc in Biology and an MSc in the Molecular Basis of Human Diseases from the University of Crete, School of Medicine. Her research experience spans cancer biology, inflammation, and molecular mechanisms underlying biological processes and disease. During her earlier research work, she investigated molecular pathways involved in skin cancer, contributing to research that formed part of a study published in Communications Biology (Nature Portfolio), as well as research on Toll signalling in Drosophila and its role in intestinal homeostasis and regeneration. Her broader background combines molecular and cellular biology, experimental research, biological data interpretation, and clinical and molecular diagnostics. Her current research interests focus on exposomics and metabolomics, with a particular interest in understanding how environmental exposures influence biological processes and contribute to chronic disease development. By investigating the relationship between external exposures, metabolic changes, and molecular responses, she is intrigued by how these approaches can improve our understanding of disease mechanisms and help identify early indicators of health risks. And based on “Prevention is the new cure”, she is particularly fascinated by the potential of exposomics and metabolomics to advance preventive approaches to human health by supporting the identification of modifiable risk factors and informing strategies for disease prevention.
